Omaha is a Midwest city located on the Missouri River near the border with Iowa. The city is well-known for its pioneer heritage and is a stop on the famous Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. Omaha also features a number of museums and cultural centers.

Numerous lakes, creeks and rivers
The area surrounding Omaha, Nebraska is abundant with rivers, lakes, and creeks. Almost all of them feed into the Missouri River. Several flow through the Platte River and Lewis and Clark Lake. Only the southernmost rivers pass through Kansas. Some of the rivers in the area have big drops, so you should be aware of those risks.
Before Omaha was settled, the Missouri River ran wild through the valley. Its course was unpredictable and would shift channel as it wished. An early exploration of the lake by the US Army Corps of Engineers revealed that it was extremely old and formed by an off-flow of the Missouri River. The erosion of the bluffs caused by the Missouri River in the 1820s probably softened the bank of the lake and cut off its flow.
The Missouri River is designated as a National Wild and Scenic River. The area near the Missouri River was used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The route of their expedition is now part of numerous state, county, and city parks. Some have visitor centers and campgrounds.
Several major sports teams
Though Omaha is not known as an athletic city, it has been the home of some major sports franchises over the years. The city has a professional hockey team and a soccer team. Omaha has also been a center for several amateur sports teams. The USL Premier Development League has two teams in Omaha, as does the American Association.
Omaha has a vibrant sports scene with several professional sports teams and modern sports facilities. The city has also hosted important sporting events such as the College World Series since 1950. In 2017, the city hosted the Pinnacle Bank Championship and the Cox Classic, which is part of the second-level Korn Ferry Tour.
The CHI Health Center is located downtown Omaha. It is home to the Creighton men’s basketball team, the University of Nebraska Omaha ice hockey team, and the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament. Before being named the CHI Health Center, it was known as the Qwest Center and was home to WWE’s “Judgement Day” in 2008. In addition, the arena was also the site of the USA Swimming Summer Olympic Trials in 2008 and 2012, and the University of North Dakota’s football and basketball teams played there.
